John Handy was
formerly Senior Vice President of Product Design at Mattel Inc.
the world’s largest toy company, where he worked for 23 years.
He led a department of 160 designers as well as a large network
of outside design firms and professional inventors creating
products for brands like Hot Wheels, Batman, Superman and
Pixar’s Cars.
John and his wife Corinne built a truly unique resort in Big Sur,
California: Treebones Resort

It opened in 2004 and has quickly risen to the number 1 resort
property on the Big Sur coast. It has been featured in The LA
Times, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Sunset Magazine
and many other prestigious publications
John is President of Red Stilts Inc., a consultancy founded on
the belief that everyone is born creative. He has found that the
creative power in everyone can be reignited and harnessed to
generate powerful breakthroughs.
John graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Industrial Design from Arizona State University in 1983. He’s
the winner of several design awards including the prestigious
Industrial Designers Society of America Merit award
John’s experience at Mattel has made him an expert in creative
leadership, synergistic collaboration and “fueling innovation”.
He has a passion for design and has developed “the Red Stilts
Creative Process” which has earned him the nickname: “the
Innovation Handyman”
